This is very interesting to read! breastfeeding and co-sleeping greatly reduce the risk of SIDS. Why won't more people get the information out on breastfeeding and SIDS!? These are lives we're talking about, not just money!

The coverage I saw on this new research not only didn't mention breastfeed, but also added "never share a sleep surface with your baby." This, despite the research showing babies can get breathing cues from mom when they sleep near each other.

I always get excited when hearing about new SIDS research on the radio..and i'm always sorely disappointed when they fail to mention breastfeeding as a factor in preventing SIDS.

I hope this research becomes more mainstream and they get more answers for the causes of SIDS.

I have a friend whose first baby died from SIDS. Mom had just gone back to work, so she weaned the baby beforehand.

Later, mom went back to school and, for a research presentation, picked SIDS as a topic. She was floored by all the research linking formula feeding to an increase risk of SIDS. She was livid she had never been told that.

She went on to have two more children after the loss of her first and after getting her degree and she busted her butt to breastfeed them both (the oldest of the two was a difficult situation because she got bad medical advice which sabotaged their nursing relationship, but still, stopping was not an option because of what she knew).
