Good on you for not letting the crazy comment slide. I find it weird that they said it from the child&#39;s view - did they put on a voice to do it??? It is quite insulting to speak for your child (who, if they could talk would be saying the exact opposite).<br /><br />I visited our GP for the first time since our last vaccinations last year, my daughter and I are rarely sick so don&#39;t see her very often. She asked about our sleep (she remembered it was awful last year) and I mentioned my daughter (24mths) was still feeding a couple of times a night. She looked mildly concerned and asked &quot;and what does she eat when you feed her in the night?&quot;. She was so embarrassed (for not realising) and a bit shocked when I said &quot;um, breastmilk&quot;. I felt sorry for her, she is a good GP and is very supportive but it was obviously a totally foreign concept to her. It is just so rare for a 2 year old to be breastfed. <br /><br />To my delight my daughter was then the poster child for extended breastfeeding. We discussed the past year and I confirmed to the GP that she was rarely ill and only mildly so if ever. While I was having my check-up she quietly climbed up on to a chair and sat patiently watching. Then to amuse herself she started counting and singing her alphabet. When the GP turned to her and praised her for it, she told her what her full name was (that just happened to be her new trick that week) and that she went to the park to see the ducks. When the GP gave her a sticker she pointed to one and said &quot;I want that one please&quot;. The GP was most impressed and kept remarking on what clear and early language skills she had. I was silently laughing myself sick, she has never put on such a show for anyone. I was wondering if you had any advice about conceiving while breastfeeding. My daughter is 9 mos. now and I&#39;m thinking of trying for another baby soon (I&#39;m nearly 40 and don&#39;t want to wait too much longer). We were fortunate and had no problems conceiving our daughter, but my doctor told me that I need to stop breastfeeding completely (!!) before I can start thinking about baby #2. I couldn&#39;t believe it - but then again, she also told me that at 9 mos. my baby doesn&#39;t need to be breastfed any longer. I had to have a thyroid uptake scan done when my son was about 2 1/2. He was only nursing before bedtime at that point and not even every day, but they told me to pump and dump and not breastfeed for a week. It didn&#39;t sound right to me at all but because we were weaning anyway, I used it as an excuse to speed up the process a bit. But had I had a newborn, I would&#39;ve been really torn as to what to do. I especially appreciate your sharing how you followed up after the blood draw when a medical professional was inappropriate to you. I had a surgeon give me inaccurate information last year, and make disparaging comments about my nursing my son (who at the time was 14 months, still nursing now at 27 months). I didn&#39;t want to comment then because I wanted to keep the relationship non-confrontational before the surgery. But I do want to follow up and let him know how he can give accurate info to nursing moms (I&#39;ve since met more than one other mom who stopped nursing because they were having surgery with him he said they&#39;d have to pump and dump for a week because of meds, which wasn&#39;t true) and that what he said regarding our nursing relationship was inappropriate.
